Made possible by a lead contribution from Monsanto Fund with support from the Arthur & Helen Baer Foundation, Ameren Missouri, and THF Realty, JazzU places talented middle and high school musicians in small jazz combos, which meet weekly between September and May. This competitive program selected 50 emerging musicians for seven groups from a pool of nearly 120 who auditioned for the 2012-13 season.
The weekend’s shows feature the top two performing ensembles in the JazzU program, which includes the premiere group, the Jazz St. Louis All-Stars. Special guest artist Sean Jones, who will be holding clinics with the two groups on Friday, May 3, will also perform with the students during a portion of the shows.
